Day 1: Hobart

Start In Hobart Welcome to the cultural hub of Hobart home to some of Australia’s best restaurants specialising in fresh produce plucked, picked, raised and caught from the surrounding area. Start your motorhome adventure bright and early with one of the state’s best coffees at Pilgrim Coffee in the thriving heart of the CBD. This hip and happening establishment serves a variety of blends at just the right temperature and has a bubbly urban atmosphere. Spend some time exploring the controversial hidden corners of Mona and the nooks and crannies of historical Salamanca before stopping for lunch at scrumptious Jack Greene with its quality burgers and mouth-watering beer battered chips. Appreciate the warm interior and keep an eye out for the moose heads! Those seeking a tastebud tantalising dining experience shouldn’t miss charismatic Garigistes or Monty’s on Montpelier for fresh Tasmanian produce served with a side of warm hospitality.

Day 2: Hobart to Bruny Island

Hobart To Bruny Island Delve further south to the charming seaside town of Kettering, the launching pad for those longing to visit the untouched coastline of Bruny Island. Catch the thirty minute ferry before setting up at Adventure Bay Caravan Park. Experience an orientation of the island on a two hour Pennicott Wilderness Adventure Tour where you will glide past seals, dolphin and whales. Day 3: Bruny Island

Don’t hesitate to sample their 1792 cheese matured on aromatic Huon Pine boards or soft Oen cheese pinot washed in vine leaves.  One you are all cheesed-out take a scenic drive to award-winning Bruny Island Smokehouse & Whisky Bar just three kilometres from the Ferry Terminal. Enjoy spectacular water views from their large veranda and sample a variety of Tasmanian produce smoked on site including preserves, seafood, poultry and game meats.

Day 4: Bruny Island to Cygnet

Bruny Island to Cygnet Continue on through the heart of the stunning Huon Valley past secluded coastline and rolling paddocks to Cygnet. This charming southern town is crammed with antique stores, a fresh veggie market and a range of restaurants making the most of what the local area has to offer. Enjoy lunch at the historic Red Velvet lounge; once a general store and bakery from 1912 until the late 80s. Sit at red velvet seats overlooking the main street and enjoy a prime people-watching position whilst sampling the best of the cafes steaming wood-fired breads, home-made cakes, hearty soup and other delights including chicken liver pate, hot-smoked salmon blinis and seared beef tongue – yum!  For an alternative try the Lotus Eaters Café also located on the main drag of Mary Street.  Savour their mouth-watering menu including a vast range of Huon Valley produce, winter-perfect curries and gourmet panninis.

Day 5: Cygnet to Huonville 

Cygnet to Huonville  Make your way back to the heart beat of the Huon Valley to the blue skies and green fields of Huonville where you will find a number of hidden boutique restaurants, wineries and cafes taking advantage of the spectacular surrounding scenery with apple trees stretching off to the horizon. A visit to this majestic corner of the world is not complete without a stopover at the rustic Willie Smith’s Apple Shed. Be amazed as you walk into a spacious room, complete with a museum and folk music on the weekends. Sample magical apple cider including their popular organic apple cider and the unusual bone dry – pare your cider with some delicious snack food. Another must on your visit to Huonville is Home Hill, a Tasmanian Boutique Vineyard surrounded by rows of vines and overlooking the untouched countryside. Savour their delicious forest mushroom risotto, char grilled fillet of beef or pan fried Huon Ocean trout!

Day 6: Huonville to Dover

Huonville to Dover Navigate further south to the picture-perfect town of Dover known for crystal clear waterways and sweeping views.   Pay a visit to Post Office 6985, a quirky café known for its wholesome food and high quality coffee. Sample fresh local delights from the all-day breakfast menu or try one of their home-made crispy based pizzas. Another must is the Thelma Retreat Wholefood Teahouse specialising in an unbeatable Devonshire tea with mouth-watering wholemeal scones, homemade jam and real cream! While you’re in Dover don’t miss out on a trip to Tasmania’s iconic Hastings Caves.

Day 7: Dover to Hobart

Dover to Hobart After a full week of eating make your way back to the scenic capital but not without stopping at Masaaki’s Sushi in Geevston; hands down the best sushi in Tasmania. It may at first seem odd that a gourmet sushi restaurant is located smack bang in the middle of a rural country town but trust us, you won’t want to miss this off your itinerary. Try Masaaki’s home-prepared Tasmanian wasabi, unbeatable freshly prepared sushi making the most of local seafood and vegetables (made right before your eyes!) and flavoursome miso soup. Be prepared to wait in line but have faith that it is well worth the wait!
