Day 2: Noosa to Hervey Bay Noosa to Hervey Bay Arrive in Hervey Bay smack bang in the middle of Whale Watching season. This seaside town is the ideal place for a whale watching cruise where you can choose from a half day experience to a full day adventure. The kids will love the underwater viewing platforms and endless supply of hot chocolate on offer. Some cruises offer children’s toys and activities on board the boat, giving parents a chance to kick back and make the most of this unique viewing experience. In the evening, arrive back at the Marina and dine at one of the child-friendly restaurants offering panoramic views of the surrounding harbour. Day 3: Hervey Bay to Rockhampton  Hervey Bay to Rockhampton  Rockhampton is an unbeatable coastal location and a convenient stopover on your school holiday adventure up the Australian coast. Rockhampton Heritage Village is an informative and colourful day out and showcases the rich history of the district from 1850 to 1950. The kids will get a firsthand look at vintage vehicles, a hall of clocks, a blacksmith shop and a range of friendly farm animals. Other attractions include nearby Koorana Crocodile Farm and Winter Magic ice skating at the Rockhampton showgrounds. Day 4: Rockhampton to Mackay  Rockhampton to Mackay  Head further north to the town of Mackay just under four hours’ drive from Rockhampton. Settle down for the afternoon by Blue Water Lagoon, a free and family-friendly leisure activity comprised of 3 tiered lagoons that overlook the charming Pioneer River located smack bang in the middle of the city. In the evening dine alfresco under the stars at waterside Mackay Marina Village with a range of restaurants catering to the kids and offering live entertainment and scenic views for the parents. Day 5: Mackay to Airlie Beach  Mackay to Airlie Beach  It’s time to explore the world-famous Great Barrier Reef and there’s no better place to start than in convenient Airlie Beach just a short drive from Mackay. Settle in at one of the award-winning caravan parks before exploring the surrounding area. Spend a casual first day splashing around in Airlie Beach Lagoon with the kids and visiting Bowen Water Park with its free water slide and play equipment. Grab a bike and cycle around the coastal pathways amongst beautiful scenery. In the afternoon settle in for fish and chips at your camp table and chairs alfresco under the stars. Day 6: Airlie Beach  Airlie Beach  It’s time to venture into the world-famous beauty of the Great Barrier Reef.  Teach the kids how to snorkel in the safety of the resort pool before catching a boat to one of the islands best snorkelling locations. If you’re adventurous try a Whitsunday Crocodile Safari or those seeking a more hassle free encounter of the reef can do so from the comfort of a glass bottom boat. Take the kids to Hill Inlet for mesmerising views or spend the day lying on the untouched sand of Whitehaven Beach. Day 7: Airlie Beach to Moranbah  Airlie Beach to Moranbah  Turn around and head towards Queensland’s youngest town, Moranbah. Get a feel for the area and take the kids on a short one kilometre Federation Walk or spend some down time at Grosvenor Creek Rest Area enjoying a family picnic. The older kids will enjoy a free tour at Peak Downs Mine; a mine that produces 8 million tonnes of raw coal a year. Day 8: Moranbah to Emerald  Moranbah to Emerald  Head further south to the outback town of Emerald and start your brief visit at the Central Highlands Visitors Information Centre. Take a walk around the immediate area and marvel at a copy of Van Gough’s Sunflower Painting standing at an impressive height. Wander around the mini pioneer village featuring a unique old prison or spend some family bonding time at the Botanical Gardens enjoying a picnic. Day 9: Emerald to Roma  Emerald to Roma  Navigate into the Darling Downs region to the iconic country town of Roma. Visit The Big Rig for an informative and interesting history of the oil and gas industry and take an exciting Journey Through Time and be wowed by the spectacular light show that will give the kids something to talk about at school. Day 10: Roma to Toowoomba  Roma to Toowoomba  Spend a relaxed afternoon in Toowoomba winding down from your two-week school holiday motorhome hire adventure.
