BRISBANE

BRISBANE TO TOOWOOMBA

MILES TO ROMA

Stop by Queensland’s oldest building, Romavilla Winery, and appreciate its historical façade or visit the impressive 3D Clay Mural detailing the fascinating history, industry and culture of Roma. Check out the town’s largest Bottle Tree, wander along the Roma Heritage Trail or visit The Big Rig, a seven million dollar living memorial to pioneers of Australia’s oil and gas industry and a must for anyone’s self-drive motorhome itinerary in the outback. ROMA TO AUGATHELLA

AUGATHELLA TO LONGREACH

On your way appreciate ‘Tojo’s Highway’ built during World War 11. No trip to the gateway of the Northern Territory is complete without visiting Camooweal Caves National Park. Marvel at the deep sinkholes that were formed when water percolated through 500 million year-old layers of dolomite. Day 12
KATHERINE TO DARWIN
Distance : 317km Time : 3 Hours 18 Minutes
It’s time to head further north to the capital of the great Northern Territory of Australia, Darwin. Wander around the city centre stretching your legs after a long few days of driving and enjoy alfresco dining at the scenic Darwin Waterfront Precinct. Peruse the Museum & Art Gallery of the Northern Territory and appreciate the intricate detail of the Aboriginal art collection. Learn about the town’s rich history at the USS Peary Memorial or WW11 Oil Storage Tunnels or relax at the Deckchair Cinema (dry season only).
Day 13
DARWIN
Rise early and enjoy a hearty breakfast in one of the city’s atmospheric cafes before making your way to the outstanding natural beauty that is World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park. Take a culture and wildlife tour and see Kakadu through Aboriginal eyes, enjoy a guided walk or embark on a 4WD adventure tour. Don’t hesitate to marvel at the spectacular waterfalls in the Jim Jim and Twin Falls region or witness sacred Aboriginal rock art. Don’t miss a chance to croc spot in the Yellow Water and East Alligator region – take a tour to be on the safe side!
Day 14
DARWIN TO MATARANKA

Navigate back down famous Stuart Highway towards the small but perfectly formed town of Mataranka, home to just over 300 residents. Explore the surrounding area including the relaxing Bitter Springs, a fringed thermal pool just 3 kilometres from the town centre. In the town centre wander around and drink in the unique feel of this outback oasis. Enjoy a coffee or smoothie at Stockyard Gallery Café where you can also purchase Aboriginal art or visit Never Never Museum with its WW1 displays. Stay at Territory Manor Motel & Caravan Park which holds a Barramundi Fish Feeding show twice a day and has a mouth-watering onsite restaurant.
Day 15
MATARANKA TO DALY WATERS
Distance : 170km Time : 2 Hours
Continue your great motorhome adventure to Daly Waters, marvelling at the iconic red Australian outback as it passes you by. Pull up at the caravan park before exploring the Daly Waters Aviation Complex, Australia’s first international airport and an important landmark during World War 11. Here you will see the original Qantas hangar building and the remains of the radio and navigational buildings. Spend the rest of the day at true blue Daly Waters Historic Pub crammed with decades of memorabilia. The pub is situated on the old droving track and is the idea place for sampling mouth-watering Barra and getting to know the locals.

DALY WATERS TO TENNANT CREEK
Distance : 407km Time : 5 Hours
The next stop is the vibrant town of Tennant Creek approximately five hours’ drive from Daly Waters. Admire this dry and rugged town surrounded by red soil and sparse trees. Get a taste for life in the 1930’s gold rush at Battery Hill Mining Centre by taking an underground tour or view the artwork of the local Warumungu people at NyinkkaNyunyu. Ride through an authentic ranch on horseback at nearby Kelly’s Ranch and hike or fish in the flora and fauna rich Tennant Creek.

TENNANT CREEK TO ALICE SPRINGS
Distance : 510km Time : 5 Hours 50 Minutes
Rise early and continue your motorhome journey down Stuart’s Highway to friendly Alice, surrounded by red sand. Take a self-guided walk around town or join a tour and learn about Alice’s indigenous and pioneering history. Visit Alice Springs Desert Park where you will see a Spangled Grunter or Marbled Velvet Gecko or stop by the Telegraph Station Historical Reserve once used to relay messages between Adelaide and Darwin. Dine out at one of the atmospheric pubs before getting an early night at BIG4 MacDonnell Range Holiday Park.

ALICE SPRINGS TO ULURU

It’s time to visit the world famous and sacred Uluru. Leave Alice early and make the long drive through Australia’s red centre to this iconic Australian outback destination. Arrive in the early afternoon and explore the art galleries of the area. Purchase an indigenous art work or two and simply appreciate the magnificent isolated beauty of this part of Australia. Stay at Ayers Rock Campground and spend the night admiring the clear starry sky.
Day 19
ULURU
Wake up refreshed and ready to explore this iconic destination up close and personal. Walk around the base of the iconic rock to discover its amazing textures and colours. Take a guided walk to Kantju Gorge where you’ll see examples of Anangu rock art and learn about their culture. In the late afternoon don’t miss the spectacular sunset where you will see Uluru lit up in all its red glory. Don’t forget to take your camera.
Day 20
ULURU TO MARLA
Distance : 517km Time : 6 Hours
Travel out on the same magnificent road; appreciating the vibrant colours of the earth. Turn off the Lasseter Highway back onto Stuart Highway and head south to the town of Marla. Just before you arrive at your destination be sure to stop by the Ghan Railway Line and watch as it disappears in a straight line towards the horizon. Visit the opal settlement of Mintabie just west of the town before settling down at Traveller’s Rest Caravan Park. The town has 24-hour fuel, accommodation, a general store and restaurant.

MARLA TO COOBER PED
Distance : 234km Time : 2 Hours 30 Minutes
It’s time to leave your motorhome rental on the surface and delve underground to explore the unique South Australian town of Coober Pedy. Navigate through the dry and cracked landscape, dotted with holes made by miners. Visit the Old Timers Mine and discover an underground home, take a scenic flight over the area or fossick for opals. MOUNT GAMBIER TO PORTLAND
