Kim And Michael’s Cruisin’ Relocation Experience: Hobart To Brisbane
We have had a lot of enquiries about our Tassie Relocation (motorhome from Hobart to Brisbane) holiday. Firstly, we loved it as we are time poor and don’t mind driving.
We relocated a 6 Berth Campervan (living areas slid in and out which gave a lot more room inside when we were parked) for Cruisin’ Motorhome Rentals. The deal was to relocate during April & May at $5 per day for 6 days with the option of extending for 4 days at $75 per day, so we paid $330 for the 10 days of hire. This kind of rental in the motorhome would usually cost around $2000 so it was a great saving.
We had to pay a $1000 deposit which came off our credit card and goes back on once returned and everything is in good order. There was a $1000 insurance claim excess, so we took out domestic travel insurance for $93 to cover both of us for 10 days and which would pay up to $5000 excess, plus a few extra bits and pieces. We also hired two chairs and an outdoor table for $35.
Cruisin’ Motorhomes paid for the motorhome and 1 person in an Ocean Recliner Seat on the Spirit of Tasmania and we paid for 1 person at $99.
We travelled just shy of 3000 kilometres in 10 days and we paid $579.55 in fuel and $263.28 for powered sites. You could have saved on site fees by free camping, the rule of thumb is preferable to power up every second or at the most third night. We found it easier to just pull into a powered site every night.
I can highly recommend the Wiki Camping Australia App (only App I have ever paid for at $4.95, but was so handy when deciding where we were going to stop for the night).
Overall it was awesome experience, we saw the east coast of Tasmania, Victoria and NSW and it was all breathtaking. Our plan is to do it again next year going across the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide prior to making our way back to Brisbane.
For us this is a much better option to buying a caravan or motorhome (which are both so expensive) and would sit in the yard for 11 months of the year.
Pro’s:
Cost to hire for 10 days – same for all types of vehicles so we chose a 6 berth, had we just hired we would have paid around $2000 rather than $330 for 10 days.
Ferry free for motorhome and 1 person paid
Great concept if you don’t have a lot of time.
Con’s:
Time restraints
Some roads aren’t suitable for big motorhomes (or caravans).
Height restrictions (ours was 3.5mtrs high) – only had a problem once at Kiama.
I have been looking at various companies for a few years now to relocate and had thought we would start with a small trip, but so pleased we have done it now and will be doing it again.
Very happy with the vehicle and drove well with no problems so check out Cruisin’ Motorhome Rentals Facebook page and their website.
