Customer Profile: The Copeland Family

Our ten day tour of Tasmania in our Cruisin’ Slider Motorhome began in Hobart.  We didn’t want to be tied to a fixed itinerary and decided to “wing it”. Having a large motorhome with all the facilities gave us the confidence to do this without worrying about getting a powered site every night.  We started by staying close by and staying at Barilla Holiday Park, they have great facilities there, and they do a shuttle bus into Hobart on Saturdays to the Salamanca Market, which is a must do if you are in Tasmania. The shuttle bus does a mini tour on the way with a stop off at a lookout below. The next night we went down to stay at White Beach Caravan Park near Port Arthur, we did the night time ghost tour at the historic site, and it was very creepy but highly recommended. From White Beach we moved up to a Discovery Holiday park on the Freycinet Peninsula via Richmond historic town, Richmond is well worth a stop for the model village and antique shops if you like that sort of thing. Coles Bay is one of the most beautiful spots, there are activities here such as kayaking and quad bike riding. From Freycinet we moved over and up to stay at a camp in Hadspen, just outside Launceston. We stayed here two nights as we had lots planned for this area. Cataract Gorge, zip lining at Hollybank Treetop Adventures, we did the touristy trips of The Raspberry Farm, Ashgrove Cheese and House of Anvers Chocolate. From here we went to see a friend at Beauty Point before going to the amazing Cradle Mountain. This was the only time we had to have an unpowered site, but we needn’t have worried as everything in our Cruisin Slider was fine.  Quad Biking on Cradle Mountain was exciting and the scenery was awesome.  There were many serious hikers out here with shuttle buses taking them to various locations to walk back. From Cradle Mountain we drove down to Strahan for a beautiful Gordon River Cruise. The very informative guide, Chrissy, told everyone of the importance of preserving as much as possible of the original native flora and fauna in the National Park. The huge twin hulled Lady Jane Franklin II was very smooth across choppy waters. From Strahan, we did a long drive back to Hobart for the last couple of nights, we drove back down towards Port Arthur to the Tasmanian Devil Sanctuary to see some of the important work they are doing to preserve the healthy population they have there, which is not affected by the terrible cancer that is decimating the Devils across Tasmania.
